The U.S. Federal Government has the world’s largest information technology budget. Federal IT will play an important role in creating one of President Obama’s top priorities: building a more open government that is transparent, participatory and collaborative. Federal IT officials who participated in the 20th annual TechAmerica survey are excited to be helping fundamentally changing how the federal government and its constituents interact using information technology. They believe that broadening public participation and involvement in the public sector will create greater trust in government, increase the value of government services and unleash innovations in governing and service delivery.

As in past years, TechAmerica received support from Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector, which sponsored and conducted this survey. This year’s report focused on transformation—preparing for a new president and adapting to the changing needs of government. The federal government's top technology executives are finally reporting concrete results for measures taken to heighten agency information security, according this year's survey of federal chief information officers (CIOs). The 2006 survey, CIOs Focus on Results, also details CIO accomplishments in IT security, IT management, modernizing application systems, consolidating IT infrastructure and improving agency scores on the President's Management Agenda.
