Since 2003, the American Society of Military Comptrollers and Grant Thornton have joined together to survey Department of Defense and Uniformed Services financial executives and managers on their opinions of trends and prospects in financial management. The Annual Survey of Defense and Military Department Financial Management Executives provides important insights into the current state of financial management in and around the defense agencies.

The 2010 survey polled 1,014 civilian and uniformed members of the Defense financial community. It inclues in-person interviews with top executives and covers such issues as resource management, the 21st century financial workforce and increasing the value of financial information.
The 2009 survey polled more than 1,600 military financial executives on human capital, enterprise resource planning, financial statement audits and other top concerns. The study incorporates results from interviews with more than 40 of the respondents.
This year's survey probed the opinions of 575 industry professionals about the future of military financial management. It looks ahead to improvement initiatives for 2009 and outlines the attributes needed for future financial leaders.
The 2007 American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC) Survey focuses on the future of financial management and the role education and training will play. Since 2003 ASMC has sponsored an annual survey of Department of Defense and Uniformed Services executives and managers on their opinions of trends and prospects in financial management. Grant Thornton’s Global Public Sector group carried out the 2007 survey from January to March 2007.
